Hi, all,
I have a motorola Rizr and wondering whether I can buy a bluetooth
adapter to be able to access phonebook and upload ringtones, etc. The
current cable coming from the phone can only access the SD micro drive
nothing else. Do I need special software do so or just a bluetooth
adapter?

Motorola Phone Tools (MPT) is supposed to be able to do some of
this stuff (over USB, serial, or bluetooth). I believe if you want
to use Bluetooth with MPT, you need to use the Bluetooth adapter
they sell along with the software. (Their drivers for XP and MPT
may require that adapter).
I was a bit disappointed in MPT with my RAZR v3. It can't identify
my phone, which self-identifies as a "V3re", but I haven't found
any references to that model anywhere. It can only back up PART
of my phone book (phone numbers, yes, address and birth date, no).
Possibly the fact that it can't identify my phone makes it think
that there aren't address and birth date entries in the phone book.
I wanted something that would back up the _entire_ phone, including
addresses, voice dial patterns, phone numbers, call logs, configuration
settings, images, etc.
I have not tried file transfers. It appears that with the Bluetooth
dongle I do have, and the drivers that came with it and the BlueSoleil,
I can do file transfers, but it's not showing me much in the way
of files (e.g. I can't transfer the pre-loaded stuff out, or even
see it). I can grab images from the camera.
To do file transfers, chances are you can use any Bluetooth adapter
and any software that works with that Bluetooth adapter.
To do phonebook updates, chances are you can use any Bluetooth adapter
and any software that works with that Bluetooth adapter and works
with the version of the phone you have. That may mean you use the
Bluetooth adapter that comes with MPT and MPT.
I'm not sure what software you need to convert sound in other formats
into ringtones. MPT claims to have some ability to do this.
If your cell phone provider is Verizon, chances are none of this
stuff works (Bluetooth for the headset probably does work). Verizon
insists that it all be turned off. Verizon would insist that your
battery charger only charge the battery from Verizon-sold electricity
if they thought they could get away with it.
