Just tried testing analog service with my old trusty Moto V120c phone.

At least on the tower that serves my house, analog has been turned
off. Digital works fine.

Anyone else notice this as well? I figured they'd do it fairly soon,
but not this soon!

Dave

Good riddence. There was nothing good about analog because any geek kid with
a modified police scanner can listen to your phone calls. It is also not
very spectrum efficent regarding voice transmission.

I got a regular scanner in the year 1986, the Regency 2000, that could
pick up analog cell phones without any modification....in fact it came
with directions as to how to pick up cell phones. back then when it
came out it was still legal to do so....

Ah, but there are people who use old phones as emergency phones for 911
without having paid service.

Perhaps, but a prepaid phone now costs you a mere $20, and if you activate
it once you can use it forever to dial 911, even if your minutes run out or
expire. And if you're using analog-only devices it would seem that the
battery would be so old as to be unreliable by this point.
