I am getting dropped connections to the point that my service is
unusable.

And that is not an exaggeration.

I finally called a service tech tonight and he monitored my
connection and found that it was bouncing back and forth between the
Alltel tower and the Sprint tower. He did not know why and gave me a
contact farther up the ladder to talk to.

I post this so that if anyone else is having a problem with dropped
connections, you will have a clue as to where to start.

The tech guy told me that this is a problem nationwide.

I know why.....You're in a DEAD ZONE with allowable in-market roaming,
Claude. Alltel needs a new cellsite. The only alternative, at the moment
is to keep roaming or have no service....not much of a choice.

You can boost this issue a lot by doing a little personal legwork trying to
find out how big an area around Sutton Machine this phenomenon is occuring.
If you show some interest like this, I've gotten calls from Alltel's
network people asking me how big I find the problem was. This little
partnership in a friendly, non-hostile atmosphere, got me a new cell on a
shared tower to fill in the hole. Problem solved! Works great now. I
went from 2 bars to 4 bars. They can also move the antennas to radiate
more power into the dead area, at almost no cost as they are already paying
the technicians that do it in some places.

It doesn't look for Sprint until it's completely lost Alltel's signal.
Must be pretty bad.....

That is good information and I appreciate it.

I already know the hole includes both my office and my home, which are
about 8 miles apart.

I was told to contact their Advanced Tech. Support people, which I am to
do tomorrow, so your information is timely, to say the least.

This information gives me a much better chance to get a fix.

Excellent. It also wouldn't hurt to mention your position at Sutton
Machine, an important member of the business community, when talking to the
techies who won't know who you are. They don't have to know you only have
one or two phones on Alltel...(c; Just casually mention who you are and
what you do, in passing, and let their imaginations think "IBM ACCOUNT"
which makes them more interested in finding a solution for someone
important...(c;

Larry:

To bring you up to date, I just talked to the guy in the Advanced Tech
department and he is sufficiently concerned that he is having their test
truck drive out to both my office and my home and run reception checks,
etc, to see what it will take to fix it.

The put it on urgent status.

That is all I can ask for.

They certainly have shown the right attitude.

I will post the outcome, when I know what that is.

Wow...being a big CEO of a major company is very powerful!...(c;

Even IBM can't get that out of Verizon!....hee hee. Alltel always tries
to do what's right....even if their incompetence sometimes limits their
response.

Larry:

Too early to tell if it is fixed, but last night from 6:00PM until
11:00, my Alltel connection was unusable. And I mean that. One minute
or less connected, forever to reconnect and then a disconnect within
seconds.

This went on for 5 hours.

Tonight it has worked like a sales brochure.

Gangbusters.

We will see.

Hmm...something changed.

I was on Kiawah Island fixing an electronically operated grand
piano in a mansion on the beach, a really beautiful place. I
needed to make a call and got no signal. I knew there was a cell
nearby so called TS on 1800alltel1 to report the outage. Within
an hour, my cellphone rang out on the island. It was a network
guy asking me if I had a better signal....now that he had
replaced a bad circuit breaker in the MAIN POWER PANEL of the
cell so the poor equipment with dead batteries had AC power,
again. I had full bars...worked great.

Everytime Alltel calls me back, I'm simply astonished. They must
be big enough to do it right...but small enough to call that
single customer back. I thanked him for calling me, then called
Alltel1 back to express my appreciation, including his employee
ID number to make sure the kudos went to the right employee file.

COMCRAP AND VERIZON! ARE YOU LISTENING TO THIS? "CAN YOU HEAR
ME NOW?!!"
