How do you break a phone contract

Hi:
My cousin lives in RI and her ex who was paying child support lost
his job. She needs to break her cell contract. Anyone know how to you
go about doing it? She has T-Mobile.

Writing a check for $200 generally works.

Otherwise she can try to con a friend or family member into taking it
over. It's called a "Change of Responsibility." Both parties trudge
into a T-Mo store and they'll handle it.
