I'm on my 4th cellphone on Alltel in 2 days, having sprung for a
Motorola ROKR this morning to get connectivity to my Nokia N800
internet tablet's Bluetooth DUN, using the phone as a modem.
I've been on the phone and at the local store where they really
HATE me, now, since 9AM this morning, having spent 8 hours on
this problem yesterday.
The sad story, in short, is I was using my Moto E815 DUN on
Alltel since getting the Nokia N800 a couple of months ago.
Alltel kept dumping and resetting the E815 2 to 10 times per
hour, making my NOT a happy camper. I started my complaint trail
on 611, then at the local Alltel company store, who really tried
to help me, but didn't have a clue about data access.
They swapped the phone for a Moto V3a, then a Samsung R500, now
they gave me a sweet deal on a Moto ROKR Z9m, the latest and
greatest.
I paired the phone with the N800 Internet tablet from the
internet tablet BECAUSE the ROKR's menus ONLY have a headset
pairing menu selection. (Make that your FIRST NOTATION to think
about.)
The N800 paired with the ROKR, the ROKR asked if I wanted to
pair, I answered YES, then a popup on the phone said the N800
wanted DUN internet access and asked me to accept or reject this
request. I accepted and the window closed.
THEN IT ALL JUST SAT THERE. The N800 internet tablet says the
ROKR supports DUN, OPP and FTP profiles active on the phone. The
bluetooth link is COMPLETE.
So, unable to get the phone to answer the DUN call from the
tablet trying to get on the net, I called Alltel with Skype.
This morning, the "story" from Alltel has changed! Alltel's new
response is to tell me that DUN is disabled by Motorola on all
new phones....by default....except for BT headset and
handsfree...in response to the damned ringtone companies bitching
about users hooking up and sharing ringtones without paying them
$20/note for 4 bars of a song.
So, I called Motorola and talked to the Phillipines, where Moto
seems to have moved. After a 20 minutes wait, a Ph lady comes
online and takes down all my information, tells me what the
scripts say when you plug "bluetooth" into the search engine, and
cannot believe in her little heart I DON'T want to connect a BT
headset to my ROKR! After a little discussion, as tempers rose,
she relented and connected me to the "software department". At
minute 53 of this 1 hour exercise, a PH guy comes online and I,
for the 12th time in 2 days, tell him my E815 DUN connected me,
intermittently, to Alltel's internet....but not the ROKR because
Alltel said Motorola had disabled DUN. He put me back on hold
for 20 more minutes and, when it became evident that I wasn't
going to hang up, told me that Motorola's ROKR did, INDEED, have
DUN capabilities and that NO, Moto had NOT disabled DUN for any
reason.
I'm recalling Alltel from Skype to give THEM this news I'm sure
they already know. Skype is great. I can hold for hours until
someone answers. Just as I typed this, Alltel's human clone
answered and I invoked the magic keywords "Data Support, Please".
He went into a trance and forwarded my call. Try it for
yourself!
So, I got another foreigner in Data Support, who also sounded
like Phillipines or maybe Bangladeshi, and he gave me the company
line...."We cannot control anything about Bluetooth in that ROKR
Phone. You need to call Motorola.", where I just came from.
I'm now in a LOOP! ALLTEL says call Motorola...Motorola says
Alltel is who turned it all off.
My next call will be to my attornies, the firm of "Diaphram, Foam
and Condom, LLC" on Monday.
I went from intermittent BT internet through DUN on the E815 sold
to me BEFORE the stupid decision to turn off all BT access to NO
INTERNET ACCESS ON A BRAND NEW ROKR THAT SUPPORTS BT DUN I JUGT
PAID $150 MORE FOR ON ALLTEL.
My attornies will be in touch. This has just GOT to be a sweet
honey of a class action suit for all Alltel or all cellular
customers nationwide! We'll be in court for years!
The ONLY BLUETOOTH FUNCTIONS ON ALL NEW PHONES IS ONLY HEADSETS
AND HANDSFREE DEVICES!
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Goddamned Ringtone bullshit!!
