Got my Nokia Bluetooth GPS receiver for my Nokia N800 BT/wifi
internet tablet, today. It comes with Navicore street software
all locked up with the WRONG DAMNED ACCESS CODE I'll have to
fight with Navicore over tomorrow so it will work.
Maemo.org has a better idea, Maemo Mapper, opensource freeware.
No damned codes needed. Just point it to pair with the tiny
little pocket GPS receiver.
N800 is, after a considerable struggle with Alltel over a new
ROKR DUN access, paired with my Moto ROKR Z6M to the EVDO on
Alltel. I paired the N800 with the little Nokia BT GPS receiver.
It accesses both, unlike the expensive phone which will either
pair with my Moto H300 BT headset...OR...my N800 internet
tablet's DUN...BUT NOT BOTH SIMULTANEOUSLY! Damn you Motorola!
Maemo mapper connects over the phone's BT net link to several
free map servers which also have Google-like satellite images
overlaid, if you like, over the street maps. The display zooms
down to 10 meters. The system puts you in the exact lane or even
a parking lot parking space on the satellite image, perfectly!
Google Earth can't find your house without being a couple of
houses off on the mainframe.
Way too cool bluetooth apps...N800 with Maemo Mapper and the
little Nokia 12-ch puck GPS receiver.
I stopped at a light and looked at the display. There was a tree
whos top I could see on the satellite picture out to the right of
my dot on the satellite picture. Looking right out the right
window of the car...THERE IT WAS! If they can get the phones to
track you like this...we're in deep trouble!
